Do not smoke
Smoking damages the eggs. This reduces your chance of becoming pregnant by 50%! In men, smoking affects the quality of sperm.
Smoking during pregnancy increases the risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, and lung problems in your child. In girls, it also increases the risk of fertility issues later in life.
No alcohol
Alcohol reduces both female and male fertility. During pregnancy, the advice is to avoid alcohol completely, not even one glass. There is no guaranteed safe amount of alcohol that a pregnant woman can consume without consequences.
No drugs
Drugs are truly taboo when it comes to wanting to become pregnant or being pregnant. If you want to address this issue, we can help you find the right people for support.
Use folic acid
We recommend using folic acid from 4 weeks before to 8 weeks after conception. A dosage of 0.4 to 0.5 milligrams reduces the risk of a neural tube defect in your baby. Folic acid is available over-the-counter at drugstores and pharmacies. You can also start with prenatal multivitamins, which contain the correct dosage of folic acid.
Calcium
Use 1 gram of calcium per day. It may reduce the risk of preterm birth, weak bones in the unborn baby, and low birth weight. Additionally, calcium can possibly prevent high blood pressure in the expectant mother and lower the risk of pre-eclampsia.
