Centering Pregnancy
Centering is prenatal care where, in addition to individual contact with your midwife, you also discuss topics and share experiences in an interactive group setting with other pregnant women.
There is plenty of space for your questions and input.
After the individual intake, there will be nine meetings held on a set day and time. You will be assigned to a fixed group with other pregnant women who are roughly at the same stage of pregnancy as you.
The first meeting starts at a pregnancy duration of 12-16 weeks, and your appointments will be scheduled up to 36 weeks. During the meetings, which last 2 hours, the external examination by your midwife will begin, and your blood pressure will be measured.
Afterwards, several topics will be discussed. This will be done in an interactive way. Being in a group allows for plenty of space to share information and experiences. Even if you need extra care, for example, if your pregnancy needs to be monitored in the hospital, you can continue attending the group meetings.
By participating in Centering Pregnancy, you have more contact with your midwife than during regular check-ups. Research shows that this form of care leads to better outcomes, and most women find it a very positive form of care with more time and attention.
