Coaching

During pregnancy, you undergo significant changes as a woman, which can sometimes make you feel insecure or anxious. This is completely normal, and during regular consultations and visits, there is always space for a good conversation, but sometimes this is not enough.

It may be that you find the birth extremely exciting, perhaps because a previous birth experience was traumatic for you. Or perhaps there are things outside of the pregnancy that are affecting how you feel right now. It could also be that you find it difficult to keep everything in balance or find the right equilibrium in your role as a young mother, partner, colleague, friend, etc.

Although women can handle a lot during this powerful period, it sometimes feels like “too much.”

Marieke te Dorsthorst is, in addition to being a midwife at Fem, also a coach and can play a role in birth preparation and processing.

A little help can make all the difference.

Preparing for pregnancy

You can also turn to me if you want a powerful preparation for your birth and postpartum period. After 25 years as a midwife, having had the privilege of guiding women during this beautiful period, I see great opportunities here.

Pregnancy is the perfect time to invest in yourself. Together, we will explore the questions: who am I? What kind of mother will my baby have? What do I need to make the birth a pleasant experience? How can others help me with that?

With the help of a beautiful workbook, we will work together to strengthen and maintain your autonomy. Step by step, you will discover where your desires, needs, and strengths lie, and by taking responsibility for them, you will experience that you face everything with more confidence and dare to let your intuition speak.

Although you do not have complete control over the birth, I am convinced that with the right mindset and good preparation, you can determine how you experience your birth. In fact, by approaching it positively, the chance of having a positive birth experience is greater.

Pure Pain and Partner

A unique preparation for your birth that is about more than just having or not having pain relief preferences. It’s about how you will experience your birth. A birth can be compared to a marathon, which is partly a physical and partly a mental challenge. Both are connected. This training focuses on the mental aspect. It provides insight into what mindset you have and what your partner has. In this way, you can influence your birth experience. You will receive tools to work on at home and a reference guide with all the information after the more than 3-hour training. This training is down-to-earth, practical, and helps reduce disappointment during labor.

Birth plan

Relaxing and confidently approaching the birth, but also the time afterward… that is mostly up to you. Your choices, your possibilities, your options, and your wishes. With a little help from the workbook: The Meadiarium, the most personal birth plan, you will write the most personal birth plan ever. This will ensure that you receive the care that suits you during your birth. This is very valuable, especially when you realize that there is a good chance that one or more people at your birth may be ones you have never seen before, but they are people you will need! So make sure they truly get to know you with the help of a personal birth plan.
I would like to be of support to you in this.

Post-birth recovery conversation

But even if the birth has been intense for you, I can mean a lot for you. You might think that you’re the only one dealing with this, but that’s not the case. Did you know that in the Netherlands, 1 in 5 women still look back on their birth with negative feelings three years after giving birth?
That is incredibly sad, but it can also harm the bond with your baby, affect your mental and physical recovery, impact your sense of self-esteem, and it can even influence the success of breastfeeding.
