Contraception

As midwives, we are here for you because you have a pregnancy wish or because you are pregnant, but also if you no longer wish to become pregnant. You can turn to us if you have questions about contraception or if you need help choosing which form of contraception suits you best. We also offer services for the placement of an IUD or Implanon at Fem. To schedule an appointment with us, you do not need to be a current or previous patient or have already given birth with us.

To make an appointment, you can contact our assistant by phone: 073 203 27 31 or via our contact form.

Contraception after childbirth

After childbirth, you can become fertile again quickly, even if you are breastfeeding. The first time you get your period again is unpredictable. Therefore, you don’t know when the first ovulation occurs. To ensure that you don’t become pregnant again immediately (although you are, of course, always welcome with us), it is advisable to use contraception.

The use of the pill and NuvaRing is not recommended in combination with breastfeeding. These contain hormones that can reduce milk production. Only the so-called mini-pill, Cerazette, can be safely combined with breastfeeding. Other forms of contraception to consider during the breastfeeding period include condoms, the IUD (both copper and hormone IUD) and Implanon.

At the end of the postpartum period, about eight days after childbirth, we will discuss the topic of contraception. For more information, you can also contact your general practitioner or visit the website www.anticonceptie.nl.

At the postnatal check-up, about 6 weeks after childbirth, we can prescribe contraception for you and, if desired, immediately schedule an appointment for the placement of an IUD or Implanon. This is possible from 10 weeks after childbirth, by appointment.
